You are an adult Probation Officer for Harris County. You will provide a pre-sentence report (essay format) to the Honorable Judge Melchor on why your client will be sent to prison or given some type of community corrections. I will provide (3) situations for you to choose from. Choose (1) and provide your argument.
If sent to prison, how long will your client serve? What type of program(s) will your client need to complete prior to being released? Where do you recommend your client to serve his/her sentence and why? Does the prison offer time off their sentence if client has good behavior? Do you recommend early release or will you enforce a mandatory minimum sentence. Upon release, what are your recommendations on type of Community Corrections? Do you recommend some type of Restorative Justice Programs for the victim(s)? What do you recommend for the children?
If Community Corrections is your choice, what type of sanction / monitoring (GPS, Voice Recording, & others)? What type of risk will your client be: High/Medium/Low and how long do you recommend your client will serve? What programs must your client complete prior to being released from Community Corrections? List all aspects of your client’s probation requirements according to risk level. Do you recommend some type of Restorative Justice Programs for the victim(s)? What do recommend for the children?
As a Probation Officer of the court, do your homework on your recommendations and requirements of your client. Be very specific and factual. Research pre-sentence reports, prison (programs), and community corrections alternatives. You MUST convince Judge Melchor why your client deserves the recommended sentence. Lots of programs out there, find them!
