Gender, Race

Background
Over the first few weeks of the course, we are discussing a number of inequalities that have a direct impact on the development of social problems. While occasionally in class we may discuss some of the intersections between these inequalities, we do not necessarily unpack how multiple inequalities may work together to create complex and challenging social problems for us to face in our society. The primary goal is to look at how two inequalities that we have discussed intersect, along with tying in the theoretical foundation that explains the social problems that occur at the intersection of these inequalities.

Pick TWO of the following domains: Class, Age, Gender, Race/Ethnicity/Culture, and Health/Disability

Discuss how the inequalities you chose intersect. How do these inequalities work together to lead to far more than the sum of their parts? What new challenges occur as a result of combining these two inequalities together that wouldn’t have otherwise existed if looking at each of them individually? Are there social problems that only exist when these two inequalities collide (and don’t exist, or aren’t nearly as significant for each of these domains individually). – Approximately 600-700 words.

Relate and discuss how the intersection of these inequalities is informed by one of the key theories discussed in the first lecture of the course. In this section, explain the theory in your own words and then argue why that particular theory is best to explain the intersection of your two chosen inequalities.
