Genetic disorder causing profound disability

Suppose you knew that a genetic disorder causing profound disability and inevitable death in early childhood ran in your family. Would you want to be tested to see if you could transmit the disorder? What if you were expecting a child when you found out about the disorder? Would you want prenatal testing?
