educational system and also to preserve a national identity. He explains what he means by this shared
knowledge or common curriculum. In a well-written response explain Hirsh’s argument. Then decide on
whether you agree with his position, either in whole or part. Explain your view with specific reasons for
agreement and/ or disagreement. Consider if this concept of a shared curriculum is needed given the current
challenges of our nation (civil unrest, immigration, economic challenges).
