600-750 words. First, choose two historical figures we have discussed in class. These figures could be specific people, or they could represent a certain group. Consider the worldviews of the people you have chosen. Write a paper laying out a debate between these two figures on a key 19th-century issue. Your paper should include an introductory paragraph setting up the issue the figures will debate, as well as the perspective of your two figures. You should then include at least two back-and-forth positions/responses in the argument between them. The format is up to you, but you must use complete sentences and your paper should be reasonably free of errors. (For example, you could write as a reporter covering the debate in which you describe the positions and responses, or you could write the paper in the form of a dialogue.) You should support your analysis with quotations and citations from the course readings; you are not expected to conduct outside research. You may choose to revise your paper for a higher grade, in which case your revision is due two weeks after you receive feedback from me.
