One historical lens between Native and white settlers is Political History. American Indians were forced to leave their lands and were moved to other areas once their territory was taken. The Cherokee is an example of this.
Another historical lens between the Native and White settlers is military history. If they did not want to move out of their land. The military would come in and move them out of the land. The wars would last a couple of years but eventually, they would be moved out of the land. An example of this is the Seminole Indians in Florida. They had signed a treaty giving up their land but they resisted. The Second Seminole War lasted seven years and was considered one of the bloodiest wars in the 19th-century.
A final historical lens between the Native and White settlers is the history of “cultural appropriation” of Native land, artifacts, property, cultural resources by white settlers. This was a huge battle that was between native Indians and white settlers. In the article that explains these facts is “Owning Red: A Theory of Indian (Cultural) Appropriation. It talks about the conflicts each side dealt with between Indians and white settlers.

How different would it be if Native and White settlers worked together to divide the land and power evenly without moving going to war or having constant conflicts? What would it take to make this a more interesting and enjoyable part of history?

Name three historical lenses that you could use to look at the events described in the video you just saw.

One historical lens is the political history between the pilgrims and the Wampanoag. The tried signing treaties to keep the peace but in the long run, the pilgrims fought back and when they won the put the Wampanoag back into slavery.
A second historical lens is a military history between the pilgrims and the Wampanoag. The pilgrims wanted the land of the Wampanoag, they fought many battles to gain the land. There was a lot of bloodshed for the land and finally, at the end of all the battles the pilgrims took the land.
A third historical lens is economic history. The land provided a lot of resources the pilgrims needed to survive and continue to grow. The economy factor was a huge reason to take over the lands the Wampanoag lived in, with the land being able to use as farmlands and even gold this would increase their survival.

Name one short-term consequence and one long-term consequence of the alliance between the Wampanoag and the Pilgrims.

One short-term consequence was the treaty signed by both kept the peace between the Wampanoag and the Pilgrims. One long-term consequence of the alliance is they were committed to keeping the area secured from attacks, and violence was no longer happening between the Wampanoag and the Pilgrims. They worked together to keep the land safe and secured.

How has your understanding of the historical event in your essay changed as a result of your research? Describe one instance of a misconception or a wrong idea you had about your topic that has been corrected after researching and writing about it.

My understanding of the historical event in my essay has changed in the sense that I am more informed of the subject than when I first started. One wrong idea was that my event on Equal Rights Amendments that this amendment was never passed. It is still spoken about today.

Name four historical lenses through which you could analyze the events of the Cherokee Removal. Specify one aspect of this event for each lens that you cite.

One historical lens is the Political History of the Cherokee Removal. It began in the ending part of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. The pressure to remove the Cherokee was due to the land that had great cotton plantations and gold. Most of the Cherokee was in Georgia and the land was wanted to help improve the economy. Another historical lens is Military history. In 1838 the president ordered the military to remove the Cherokee out of their lands, this event killed a lot of Cherokee. Another historical lens is Economic history. The land was Cherokee lived was great for farming and there was a gold rush in Georgia that was needed to improve the economy in America. Another historical lens is the Cultural History lens. The culture of the Cherokee change in the 19th century because they started to marry white settlers. They also started to work with the white settlers as well as trade with them. The Cherokee began to dress differently in western style outfits and they also had black slaves.

Agree or disagree with the following thesis statement: “The Treaty of New Echota was invalid, and the National Party was correct to oppose it.” Cite at least three historical facts that support your position.

The Treaty of New Echota was invalid because it stated that they would let Cherokee remain east of the Mississippi and become citizens if they gave up their land. The Cherokee was given 2 years to relocate or they would be forcibly removed from their land by the military. They began to remove them and lots of them died in the process. The next attempt to remove them was through trains through terrible weather. Another incident was lots of Cherokee died on their move. More than 4000 Cherokees died during this process and the atmosphere was terrible. The Cherokee did not agree with their leaders and the treaties they came up with, this caused the death of leaders of the party. Cherokee was divided into their opinions and killings lasted for some time.
