How does your unit or organization undertake strategic planning? Are you involved in the process? Are the mission, vision, and goals of the organization apparent when unit decisions are made? Are they threaded through everything that employees do, and are the congruent? For example, if you worked at Jefferson University Hospital and this was the mission, vision, and values that your organization represents s that consistent with what nurses employed there will see on the unit? If the organization values empowerment, are nursing unit-based councils respected and listened to? If the organization says it values clinical excellence, does it pay for or provide continuing education? How do these goals translate to your unit’s budget?
