Our first essay, the process analysis, “identifies and explains what steps must be taken to complete an operation or procedure. There are two kinds of process analysis: directional and informative.” It’s up to you which of those you will do. Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind:
Develop a clear, logical, specific thesis that indicates a process
Organize your steps in logical, chronological order, using smooth transitions (first, second, next, finally, etc.) between steps or stages.
Include all steps (and warnings, if necessary) to understand the process.
Make sure each step is clearly and adequately explained and described.
Describe any necessary equipment and define special terms
For this essay you must explain to your reader the steps taken to fulfill a process from one of the following topics, using either the directional or informative mode of analysis.
