International Relations as a discipline and/or field of study

Is it a discipline? Is it a field? Does this distinction matter? Has International Relations failed as an intellectual project as Buzan and Little would suggest? Why or why not? Is there value in a diverse approach to international relations with multiple theories guiding us in our analysis? How and why?
