As nation-states emerge from colonialism so too do their identities and political systems. Often, independence is followed by civil war. choose one state to do a case study on and examine their transition to a sovereign state and a democratic system. the country that you choose can be mentioned in the module but it doesn’t have to be, for example, Ireland. include:
the state of affairs before independence (1 point)
the struggle for independence (1 point)
the direct aftermath of independence (2 points)
their system of government (do they have a constitution? a representative democracy?) (3 points)
include a section on their socioeconomic system (for example, is it more capitalist or socialist?) (1 point)
current issues that exist today regarding statehood or national identity and government. (1 point)
