Using the first-person voice, tell a story about ONE aspect of how you identify yourself in the world. How do
you think other people receive and understand your self-perception? How is this part of your identity
subject to stereotype? If a stereotype is a generalization that applies to groups, not individuals, how do you
resist stereotypes and assert your individuality? Use these questions to develop a literacy analysis essay.
How does your use of language and the particulars of your discourse community inform your self-
perception/self-identification? How might someone outside of your discourse community misunderstand
your language and discourse community? What is the discrepancy between their literacy and yours? How
might this discrepancy result in stereotype?
