The 5 Whys – Lean Problem Solving
There aren’t enough tools or education for feminine grooming. Do we recognize that the problem is a shortage
of feminine hygiene services, but is it also a lack of education provided to families that causes young girls to be
unaware of the issue? Is that because of the shame associated with having a period? Is tourism an issueprostitution is a resource of income for millions of young girls.
Is there a problem with the government? Who exactly is the target audience for this topic? The parents,
religion, government resource, school, economy do we target them?
Just this year 2021 Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader signed a bill that bans child marriage by
prohibiting marriage for individuals under the age of 18.
The dilemma is that girls are more concerned about making their families eat than with going to school. Is the
school providing information on feminine hygiene to young girls? Is the government providing financial
assistance to the educational sector in order to offer separate streams of resources to parents and girls? Are
the parents willing to receive their ressource because everyone in the family needs to work? What exactly is
the problem? What is the situation?
