Lesson Planning for Literacy

Teachers need to consider the whole child when developing literacy lessons. You have learned how to develop oral language abilities, foster emergent literacy skills, evaluate whole language and phonics processes, and pre‐ and post‐assess student skills.
For this benchmark assignment, you will create a small group lesson plan. Use assessment data collected from your field experiences to guide the learning objectives, instruction, assessment, and differentiation within your lesson plan. This plan will also identify appropriate learning strategies in the assignment.
Using the “COE Lesson Plan Template,” design a lesson plan to provide instruction on two of the four literacy components (language, listening, speaking, reading, and writing). Create objectives that align to the standards and are developmentally appropriate for your students. You may combine more than one standard in a single learning objective if it makes sense to do so.
