Linking Theory and Practice: Adding Developmental

To demonstrate meta-understanding of the learning theories with regard to adult development and growth. Address the following:
o Analyze the application of traditional and adult learning theories from the perspective of adult development and growth.
 What other considerations would you have for each of the five groups in the left column for the Unit 2 assignment (page 39 of the Merriam and Bierema text)?
 For example, if you had indicated in the Unit 2 assignment that you believe the purpose of education is to develop capacity and skills to learn better (a cognitivist orientation), you probably would not have changed your mind about that. In fact, you might feel that you can relate even more strongly to the cognitivist orientation and would explain why (this could also be the basis of what you understand better about experiential learning, for the Unit 3 assignment).
o Analyze adult cognitive development through application to adult learning.
 What do you better understand about the adult-learning theories analyzed in the Unit 3 assignment?
o Describe accommodations for aging learners designed to maximize intelligence.
 Building on the previous example, you would also now know that your efforts to facilitate skill development would require considering the age of your learners and any age-related decrements they might be experiencing.
