For the literary analysis paper, you are to choose one of the poems we discussed in class (see listing below) and analyze the poet's literary techniques in the poem. As such, you will focus on the poet’s purpose and how the poet achieves his/her purpose--i.e., whether or not his/her chosen techniques are effective given his/her intended audience and purpose (message/theme). The thesis should be “The poet does X to successfully accomplish Y." Here X stands for the poet’s techniques and Y stands for the poet’s purpose (message/theme).
