Visual images—like digital photography, emojis or memes—are now important to the technosocial practices of
youth. What are some of the points made by two of the following authors about youth use of visual images

Many of the materials in the course show the complex ways that liminality shapes youthful lives. What do
authors argue about youth liminality? Choose two of the following authors to discuss: Manning, Giroux,
Greenberg, and Wang. Make sure to discuss an example in detail from each author that you discuss and show
how the example relates to their argument. MAXIMUM WORD LENGTH: 650
Further Instructions:
You should start your answer to both questions with a paragraph giving a general introduction that connects to
the question and links the question to the readings.
No late exams will be accepted. Ensure you finish the exam with enough time that you will not run into any
internet or other technical issues.
You must write your word count at the top of both your answers (you will lose 3% for not doing so). If you
exceed 650 words for either, you will lose 1% for every 50 words (or less) you go over.
You cannot use any direct quotations. (There will be a 3% penalty for each one.)
During the availability of the exam, you will see an assignment link where you will submit the exam.
Advice:
You have limited words to work with, so it is important to not waste time trying to write everything you know
about a term or author. Read the questions carefully, and ensure you are answering them.
This is an exam meant to be written in 2 hours, so it doesn’t have to be written formally or be polished. (You
can use as much time as you want during the availability of the exam, above.)
Although you can enter your text straight into a textbox, you should write your answer in a word processor
application/program to prevent any issues with losing your work. Ensure you save your work frequently and
turn on automatic back ups. If you lose your work, we will not be able to give you any credit.
Although it is open book, you don’t need to include formal parenthetical citations to the readings (you can
include them if you want). However, in case this is not clear, this in no way means you may copy statements or
sentences directly from the readings or any other source without quotation marks. Doing so is plagiarism.
