    Pick a single recorded example (which is not on the course playlist in our text book, and which I have not discussed in class) by leaders: Coleman Hawkins (ts, b.1904), Art Tatum (p, b.1909), Mary Lou Williams (p, b.1910), Charlie Christian (g, b.1916), Ella Fitzgerald (v, b. 1917), Thelonious Monk (p, b. 1917), Dizzy Gillespie (t, b. 1917), Anita O'Day (v, b. 1919), Charlie Parker (as, b. 1920), Oscar Pettiford (b, b.1922), JJ. Johnson (tb, b. 1924), Sarah Vaughan (v, b. 1924), or Bud Powell (p, b. 1924), that was recorded between 1942-1948, and write a short essay (with a clear thesis statement, or "point" you are making) discussing the recording in terms of: What is the musical effect of the specific recording, and how is that achieved?
