The Baroque Era (1600-1750) followed the Renaissance (1450-1600). Setting dates like those you see in
parentheses is a way to give an approximation of what really happened. Music changes gradually, and old
styles linger as new ones begin. The text discusses the way older people tend to resist new music.
The Baroque was a time of change and development in the way people made music in Europe, and to
some extent. in the American colonies as well.
