Description
Use your course readings and other outside sources to discuss a national policy area in which you would like to suggest some moderate to major changes. Pick an issue of personal interest to you. Outside sources for your research can include major national newspapers such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, or Los Angeles Times, among other sources. Major Texas newspapers such as the Dallas Morning News or the Houston Chronicle are good sources as well. You may also utilize various government documents such as reports from government agencies, speeches by politicians, or studies from academic journals, interest groups, or think tanks. In a 1,500-word essay, address the following:
Summarize the historical evolution of your chosen policy. Where did it change over time? Were the changes considered successful? Why or why not?
How did the policy go through the stages of the policy process?
Discuss the competing proposals for change in the policy area.
Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each competing proposal. In the end, what would you propose? Why? Explain and illustrate.
Be sure to include proper citations for all sources used in collecting your information.
