NEWS RELEASE ASSIGNMENT
For your news release assignment, you will choose the next job of one of the following individuals:
• Sheryl Sandberg
• Adam Neumann
• Lin-Manuel Miranda
• Sarah Sanders
Then you will write a traditional news release announcing his/her position from the perspective of the new “employer.”
First, do some research about the four above and the types of organizations or future endeavors that might interest him/her.
Some examples would include: anchoring a talk show, headlining a new national cause, building an innovative school, running for office, launching a tech product, etc.
Once you choose his/her next job, do some additional research about the types of activities and responsibilities that would be required of him/her.
For instance, if you decide he/she should build a school, you would include: what type of school it is (k-12?), curriculum focus, cost to attend, where it is located and why that location was chosen, how the school accepts students, and how the school is different or innovative.
Be sure to incorporate the seven basic components of a news release: (1) release template/masthead, (2) headline, (3) dateline, (4) lead paragraph, (5) body of text, (6) boilerplate about the organization, and (7) contacts.
Please limit your release to one page (no photos/images, please) and remember to follow AP Style.
The release MUST be accompanied with a pitch email.
