Pediatric Journal Article Critique

 

 

• Review and ONE article related to best practices or a sentinel event in the pediatric setting.
o Examples of best practices: palliative care for children suffering from terminal cancer, preoperative/preanesthesia checklists (time out), interventions to prevent catheter associated urinary tract infections, etc.
o Examples of sentinel events: medication errors, falls, retention of foreign objects during surgery, etc.

-Write a Journal Critique for the chosen article.
The following guidelines apply:
❖ Journal Critique utilizing a Professional Nursing Journal, i.e. RN, American Journal of Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Nurse Educator, etc. You may not use a popular magazine like People or Reader’s Digest! You cannot use a physician’s journal like Lancet or Journal of the American Medical Association

❖ This is a critique and should focus on the article you selected. There should be no additional references included.

❖ Journal article must have been published within the last five years, 2016-2021 and be at least two pages in length.

❖ For a successful grade, you are encouraged to:
✓ briefly summarize the article
✓ key points of the article
✓ how valid you believe the article to be (i.e. the nurse only interviewed 2 people or the nurse has worked extensively in that area so it was believable); who would you recommend the article to and why specifically.

❖ Grading Scale:
✓ 20 Two typewritten pages, double-spaced with one inch margins
✓ 20 Short summary of the article
✓ 30 Key points of the article with primary examples
✓ 10 How valid is this article and who would you recommend the article to and why specifically
✓ 10 Correct formatting and referencing using APA Style formatting
✓ 10 Correct spelling and grammar
