Presentation on Positionality: Digital Transformation Age

Description

Positionality Presentation – Please read the assignment in full. The presentation should contain 3 references from the uploaded text.

Assignment Description
Positionality encompasses self-reflexivity, transparency, and an understanding of our own biases, among other elements. For this assignment, state your problem of practice, and discuss your own positionality in relation to your problem of practice. This should include a self-reflexive piece, a discussion of your professional expertise as well as recognition of your role as an action researcher.

Know as you begin this process that research is not neutral or apolitical, it is directly shaped and influenced by factors ranging from the personal to the socio-cultural. There are most often autobiographical motivations for research and all educational researchers inform their research from personal biases, presuppositions, assumptions whether those biases relate to a work setting, home life, or any other number of contextual factors.

Template for Positionality Presentation

Introduction:
Start with a brief overview of your problem of practice. Then provide a VERY brief overview of the main components of your presentation.

Self-Reflexivity:
Identify and describe your perspectives and biases in relation to your problem of practice. Incorporate concepts from at least three of the assigned readings so that your positionality statement is reflective of new ideas encountered in your reading assignment. Your identity, thinking, and behavior are far more socially constructed than you may believe. You grew up with experiences of how your parents and those around you treat you. Eventually you made general assumptions about how everyone should act and be treated. Each of us largely absorb our default understanding of what a human being is from our experiences growing up. These understandings are some of the most basic ways we think about others and ourselves and these understandings often go unchallenged.

Unchallenged understandings can compromise your research and bias your findings. (Machi and McEvoy, 2016). This assignment provides an opportunity for you to explore how your identity is socially constructed and in what ways a socially constructed identity can influence how you see the world. However, this section should not simply be a description of your life experiences. Focus on specific aspects of your background that have shaped who you are and the understandings and assumptions you bring forward with you.
Professional Expertise:
You all have significant experiences and expertise in your professional fields. Discuss the knowledge and assumptions about your area of research you bring with you from this experience.
Role as an Action Researcher:
What role will you be in as an action researcher (insider, outsider, et)? How will you navigate this role to ensure your research is ethical and effective? You should reference the text in this section. You may build on and/or refine the response you wrote for the DB in this section.

Conclusion:
Provide a brief conclusion that ties together all the pieces of your presentation. It should include a summary of the most significant personal and professional experiences that have influenced who you are in relation to your research as well as how you will identify the biases and assumptions you bring with you and also speak to how will I identify and isolate my personal bias, opinions, feelings, and intuition to preserve my neutral position as a researcher?

Problem of Practice Statement

Digital transformations reshape industries dramatically; hence, most companies find it essential to pursue change efforts that capture the benefits of such trends and help them face their competitors (Hickman & Silva, 2018).
It is necessary for leaders to take critical steps while facing a digital transformation in order for it to be successful. Such actions include having the right leaders in place, empowering employees to work in new ways, among many others. For enterprises, the core strategic agenda is digital transformation. During this transformation, change is to take place at all levels in a company. According to research, most originations confirmed the difference in their top teams during the conversion (Hickman & Silva, 2018). This occurred mostly in a new leader who joined the management team and was familiar with digital technologies. To feel the impact of the new systems or initiatives implemented in the organization, it is essential to note that organizations need the benefit of change leadership as well as management. Involving such leaders is one of the keys to the transformation process; hence, this navigates change in the organization at all levels. Leadership commitment also plays a vital role in ensuring the success of the change. When individuals who are in critical positions in any organization are more involved, then it is more likely that transition will be successful. These leaders include those in senior roles as well as those in transformation-specific positions.
Finally on a personal note, I chose this topic because I am interested in the intersection of the digital age in the workplace and adult learners. Every day I see people being left behind because of technology or afraid that technology will replace their jobs. Often managers do not have the correct training or skills set to assist their employees with navigating this change. I am interested in researching this topic and through my dissertation addressing and presenting solutions around my areas of interest.
