• It is suggested that although community-oriented policing and problem-oriented policing frequently
“comingle” in the real world, they are nevertheless distinct approaches. Cite the primary characteristics of
each that distinguish it from the other.

• Although crime control is certainly the central police role, the police indeed have other functions. What are
some of those functions, and why are they the responsibility of law enforcement agencies?
• Why is community engagement used far more frequently in conjunction with geographic targeting than it is
when targeting offense type or offender type?
