Professional Organizations

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the complex role that profession organizations play in the profession and in society. 2. Research and compare two professional nursing organizations. Including membership criteria, fees, conferences, etc. 3. Discuss the benefits of belonging to a professional organization? 4. Discuss reasons why few registered nurses (RNs) join professional associations (fewer than 10% join the American Nurses Association [ANA] and approximately 20% join a specialty organization). 5. Discuss issues surrounding these reasons. Speculate as to why RNs prefer specialty organizations over broader ones.
