Paper details
Students are expected to write a brief (approx. 1000-word) response paper that addresses some of the major
issues discussed throughout the lecture and respective reading material. Students should develop their own
critical stance on this particular theme, reading, or case. These response papers may take one of two
approaches:
• Students may choose to focus on one specific reading from the corresponding three-week block. Students
should identify and clarify the author(s)’ argument; relate the author(s)’ argument to themes and cases
discussed during lecture; and develop a critical stance in response to the author(s)’ argument; or
- Students may choose to focus instead on a wider thematic issue that cuts across several of the readings from
the corresponding three-week block. Students should fully explain this particular thematic issue and discuss
the major debates relevant to this issue. Students should identify key figures and critical cases.
