Reflections on important people in history and key issues involving them

Reflections on the following ‘giants’
Muhammad
Hildegard of Bingen
Mary Shelley
Karl Marx
Sigmund Freud
Darwin
Simone de Beauvoir

What to include in your reflections:
Try to include the following when writing your reflections:
The issue[s] you found most interesting, controversial, helpful, relevant or confusing in your reading of the central text and the secondary literature, in the light of the issues. I will include the reading in the file uploads.
Explain why you chose to focus on this issue. Given that you only have 250- 300 words per person it might be best to focus only on one issue so you can write about it in more depth.
Do not summarize the content of the work, but try to highlight the ways your reading (the key text plus the analytical and background texts) tackled, avoided, challenged or agreed with the issues highlighted/ideas presented in the lecture and in other courses for your degree.
In particular, try to explore the author’s argument about what knowledge is, how it is produced, and how it might be used. Do their ideas relate to any other thinkers you’ve looked at? If so, how?
Think about the context in which the author was writing. Were they responding to any particular issues in their setting which might be relevant? How does this change the way you read their work?
Reflect on the impact that the author whose work you are reflecting on had/might have had on broader social, cultural, political or economic questions and on people and communities
beyond ‘the academy’.
