Write about a situation in which there was a question about use of a controlled drug for symptom control. This might have been about use of marijuana for pain or nausea, use of narcotics for chronic pain or at higher doses than the team preferred, or with a patient with a substance abuse history. What were the ethical or legal issues raised by the situation? Was there bias demonstrated (e.g. assumptions regarding “addicts”, or an ethnic, racial, or SES group)? How did you respond? What were the team and systems issues which determined what happened? What would you do differently next time, based on this experience?
