After observing the painting, ask the following questions: 1. What is Aristotle’s melancholia about? On the other hand, is he just pensive? What could be the context of the Copernican scientific revolution and Aristotle’s aging and deeply thoughtful visage and possibly melancholic look? What is he looking past? 2. What relationship do you see between the bust of Homer, the pendant of Alexander the Great and Aristotle the philosopher? In other words, comment upon the triadic structure you perceive in the painting between poetry, politics and philosophy.
