One of the course themes is “Securing Democracy Abroad.” How did American foreign policy and the U.S. role in the world shift starting in the latter part of the 19th century? How did Americans justify their foreign policy, and what did this foreign policy look like from the mid-1800s to the 1920s? What were the major turning points and who were the presidents who effected this shift? Trace American foreign policy from the roots of U.S. imperialism through World War I.You must use the following key terms: (1) Imperialism/ Navalism; (2) Seward’s Folly / Hawaii; (3) “White Man’s Burden”/Spanish
