The visual analysis should consist of four pages with a separate bibliography. Please identify the artwork by artist, title, year and media. For the first part describe the artwork. What does it materially consist of? What does it look like? Describe scale, colour, texture, time, duration, movement, sound. I should be able to visualize the artwork based on your description. Really look at the artwork and tell me what you see. For the second part of the analysis I want you to connect the visual and material aspects to a discussion of what the artwork makes you think and why? Does the title (or lack of) influence your reading of the artwork? Your response should be grounded in what is visible of the artwork. Think about how the artwork functions in an exhibition space. Think also how the media that is used to execute the artwork contributes to the critical reception of an artwork. It may to useful to consider how critics have responded to the artwork you are analyzing or other artworks by the same artist. What is the historical context of the artwork? What was happening during the period in which the artwork was created?
