- ESPN recently commissioned UF to conduct a study of 1,250 elite youth sport athletes playing “travel” ball in the US. The preliminary results were published online and in the July 2013 issue of ESPN Magazine (http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/9422297/elite- youth-athletes-reveal-how-playing-sport-impacts-their-lives-espn-magazine). Briefly read over the results of the study and answer the following questions:
a. Which results are the most and least surprising?
b. Which of the statistics outlined do you think are problematic and need to be
addressed in any reform attempts to youth sport in the US? - Many high schools have implemented pay-to-play fees in athletic programs in order to meeting difficult economic shortfalls. Do you think that a fee of $100 for every athlete to play high school football is justified? Why or why not?
