The following post has two assignments namely;
1.Stakeholder Support
1. List five different categories of career or personal development that you may want or need over the next five years. Be specific. For instance, rather than just saying “mentoring,” think about the types of mentoring you might want or need. What kind of advice will you be you likely to seek over the next few years?
2. Now, consider that it might not be possible to get all of these different types of advice/support from just one or two people. For each of the five types of advice/support listed above, name three people or other resources that you could enlist to get that advice/support. Rather than naming the same few people/resources over and over again, try to think of who will be best able to help you in address each specific career development need. Also, these could be people you haven’t met yet (e.g., your future boss).
3. Review the list of people and resources above. What are three things that you could do right away to establish or improve the strength of these relationships?
4. Watch the Adam Grant TED talk: https://www.ted.com/talks/adam_grant_are_you_a_giver_or_a_taker
What are three ways that you could use the information in this talk to improve your career mentoring, networking, and relationships?
5. How could you be more of a “giver” in your network? Think of someone in your network who is considering a career transition. They could be looking for internships, researching graduate school, or thinking about retirement. What is one thing that you could do for them that would help their career development? Do you have contacts, resources, knowledge, or ideas that might be useful to them? If so, how could you help them? Do you think you will actually reach out and help them in this way? Why or why not?
2.Cultural Competence Mission
1.Watch the Riverbend City: Cultural Competence Mission for this unit. Consider the following: Copy of transcript below.
1. How did the differences in beliefs and values influence the situation?
2. What actions might the staff at RCMC have taken to avoid the confusion?
3. What is the likely outcome of the situation?
4. Discuss the importance of being culturally competent and support your position with references to your unit readings and one resource not required for this course.
