Fact: The Art of Historical Detection, the authors discuss the difficulty in obtaining and analyzing diverse sources of information about a particular historical event, in this instance slavery. Drawing on interviews conducted in the 1930s the authors mention a variety of issues that can mislead a researcher’s judgment and make an accurate assessment of historical information difficult.
After reading the article, discuss in your post the various impediments historians face as they attempt to assess slavery. What are the specific problems identified in the essay which can confuse and/or distort an accurate historical picture of slavery in this instance. As a historian, what might you do to overcome these problems. Include in your post at least two examples from the article.
