Conflict of Interest refers to an interpersonal conflict that develops due to failure to strike a balance between an individual’s job and other activities that lead to clinical, professional or organizational dilemmas. In health care, these conflicts of interest challenge the conventional goal of medicine: prioritization of the patient’s interest. Typically, conflicts of interest are addressed in legal compliance programs regarding professional codes of practice within organizations or associations, around which there is considerable literature.
