As there has been a call for the U.S. to move forward with drastic police reform measures, due to the recent onslaught of officer-involved fatalities against people of color, there is a need to examine disparities in the treatment of minority citizens. From a historical perspective, there are a plethora of examples of police brutality against minority citizens. Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Philando Castile, Breonna Taylor, Botham Jean, Alton Sterling, Sandra Bland, George Floyd and countless others have perished while either in custody or during a “arrest”. Based on the U.S.’ turbulent history, which is plagued with examples of inequality and racial injustice, in your opinion, what is police reform? Is it even possible? How do we move forward with policing the police? What roles should, both, local jurisdictions and the Federal government/ law enforcement agencies play in creating a more peaceful existence and relationship between the law enforcement community and minorities or individuals from fragile communities.
