Training helps perfect an existing skill, while development helps a person create a new skill. Sometimes one they didn’t know they had, or even unrelated to the job or task at hand.
Training is short term focused….or how do I become better at what I do today. Development is long term focused and addresses how to become better in the future and at a more macro level.
Overall, there are too much training in organizations and not enough “development”. What are the benefits for each and how can a company focus more on development and not training.
