Describe a critical incident in which I was given leadership responsibilities for a specific
amount of time and the outcome was fortunately positive. In one of the replies, Federico identified
transformational and SERVANT style as appropriate for this kind of situation. He also supported his argument
by mentioning that such leadership approaches can cover indefinite projects. What made me review my
leadership style though, was the fact that he suggested investing in people above all or investing in managerial
skills in general.
Servant leaders, as any kind of leader, are defined by their technical, social, decision-making, delegation and
other skills and priorities. As far as the people investment is concerned, it is argued by Hartnell et al. (2020)
that ‘Servant leaders’ priorities are derived from their moral obligation to promote followers’ sense of meaning
and significance as well as to enhance the organization’s financial performance. So, in this case, the
investment in people can be adequately fulfilled.
My plan after considering the above feedback material is to have a multifaceted perspective and include
several leadership styles when receiving managerial and leadership duties. The main conclusion of the above
reflection is that when leading a group of people, many different perspectives need to be considered. My major
next step is to focus on various managerial skills training such as technical, decision-making, timemanagement etc. to be ready for my next action as a team leader.
