Volumetric analysis is a practical technique where reacting volumes are used to analyse and calculate a variety of unknown values. The most common volumetric method is titration.
It can be useful to find the:
• Concentration of a solution
• Molecular mass of a substance
• Formula of a substance
• Percentage composition of an element present in a substance
• Stoichiometry (balancing amounts) of an equation
Titration is a relatively cheap method of analysis (compared to instrumental methods). It is well established and accepted and used with confidence. It is also relatively inexpensive so if it works, why change it.
