History & Divinities: e.g. deities, myths, wars, political organization, persecution
- Hints: Focusing on one or two points within your topic is infinitely better than a quick skim
of many topics. If you encounter philosophical puzzles (e.g. a faith holds the apparently
contradictory beliefs that everyone is free and that everyone has a predetermined destiny) or
misunderstandings (i.e. misunderstandings about a religion by people outside that religion),
discussion of them could enrich your paper. If you can explain how sacred texts or myths
support your claims about the religion, that would be excellent. - Research Requirement: You must cite throughout the paper, and list in your bibliography, at
least 5 print sources: 4 secondary sources + 1 primary source.
a. Definitions: ‘Print Source’: A book, journal or newspaper article that could be found
in physical form; thus, Wikipedia pages, blog posts, and many other items found via
Googling won’t count. Instead, use the search engines on this course’s library guide.
‘Secondary Source’: a print source about a religion that is not itself a religious text.
‘Primary Source’: sacred texts or myths.
