Description
Read Chapters 3 and 4. If you want to learn the stuff deeply, try all her exercises! But that’s optional of course.
QUESTION 1
Your cousin Vinnie can’t find his copy of Business Writing: What Works and What Doesn’t. But his boss has
asked him to write a memo to the staff about a change in scheduling. Using what you learned in chapter 3,
write an e-mail to Vinnie and explain to him how to write a powerful memo. Use at least 2-3 of Davidson’s
tips/tools in your explanation.
BE AWARE OF YOUR AUDIENCE AND AGENDA! You are writing to your cousin and you have to teach him
something. A good answer not only does the task but shows a clear understanding of audience and agenda in
the way you write to that person.
QUESTION 2
- Pick ONE of the questions below to answer. To answer the question, USE THE EXERCISE DAVIDSON
SUGGESTS to get over some page fright of your own. Your answer will show me that you read the chapter and
are applying her ideas.
Write your response to the task you pick and then skip a line and write a few lines explaining how you used
Davidson’s strategy (and which one). Make sure you do the latter (the last thing I said) or I will have no way to
know if you are doing the strategy on purpose.
• Think of something you have to write for another class this week. Pick one of Davidson’s strategies for
overcoming page fright and do the exercise she suggests to start getting ideas for that assignment.
• Think about your next steps from college to career. Pick one of Davidson’s strategies for overcoming page
fright and do that exercise to start brainstorming ideas for the path towards your future
