One of the key skills for any historian is to be able to read, interpret, and convey the importance of primary sources. The basis for this paper comes from the dark blue “Primary Source” sections of your textbook (with which you are already familiar and have used for your earlier primary source assignments). For this final essay, you will select any four of these primary sources from two consecutive chapters in the textbook. Then, you will write a paper that: ● Develops, and clearly places (at the beginning of the paper) a thesis statement/argument about how the primary sources you chose help us better understand the historical period in which they were written. ● Analyzes and explains the major ideas/points in each source, including who wrote the source and/or where it came from. ● Compares and contrasts the major points of each source within the broader context of the overall historical themes in the chapters chosen. ● Includes a distinct concluding paragraph that summarizes the major findings in your essay and draws overall conclusions about the significance of your chosen sources for their historical period.
