Acculturation

Experience acculturation (the process of adapting to, and adopting, a
different culture from the one in which you were enculturated). You must participate in a different cultural experience than the one(s) you are normally exposed to. For example, you may attend a religious ceremony from a religion you have previously had no exposure to, a traditional Hindu wedding, etc. Before you go, be sure to research the customs of the culture you are acculturating to (e.g. wear appropriate clothing, use appropriate greetings, etc.). The goal is to fit in as well as possible.
When writing this experience up, you should have three sections.
You must first describe the culture to which you are enculturated.(Christianity) Be sure to include details that are relevant to the situation you adopted (if you attended a religious ceremony, describe in detail the religious customs you are accustomed to, if you attended a birthday party explain how birthday parties are typically conducted in your culture). You want the reader to be able to see the difference between the culture you grew up in and the cultural practices you had to adopt for a short period of time. Do NOT
assume the reader knows either culture for themselves.
The second section of your paper should describe the culture to which you are acculturating; include customs and any other characteristics that someone might observe if they were to experience a similar cross-cultural experience as you. Be sure you describe any necessary background which would explain these customs/characteristics.
The last section of your paper should describe your experience. What did you notice about the behaviors,
values, norms of this new culture, how well did you adapt to the culture (was it flawless or were there
problems in execution), etc.?
