And this is the topic for this paper: I want to choose the first choice of the list that I want to develop a
comparative analysis of two characters from two texts, which are Antigone and Oroonoko, and develop the
analysis of the relationship ties around both of them, such as family or romance. The reason why I am
interested in this topic is that both Antigone and Oroonoko can be considered tragic heroes who fought for their
loved ones, families, and love to the death. In addition, as a female and a black male, they might be in a weak
position in society, and they both encountered difficulties in their stories, but they both fought with authority or
colonists for their will and freedom because their stances were against the authority or majority so it would
cause the tragic ending of their stories.
Another important point of idea: You will need to think about what that phrase “tragic hero” means — I talk at
length about this in my Antigone lectures, so go back and watch those again. Are they tragic heroes in the
same way? Do they stand up willfully in the same way? You’ll want also to think about your point here — what is
the argumentative point in drawing this comparison? By analyzing these two characters side by side in this
way, what do we learn?
