Research Questions:
1) In patients in the surgical units what is the effect of proper hand washing practice of nursing and medical
professionals versus ineffective hand hygiene on the prevention of cross contamination between patients
during a 7 day hospitalization?
2) In immune depressed patients, does the use of gloves and other personal protective equipment alone
compared to the use of soap, water and friction reduce opportunistic infection during hospitalization/ isolation
period?
3) In the neonatal preterm infant with inadequate immune system defense, does handwashing with soap and
water of parents and health care workers reduce the contamination of babies by common bacteria on the
hands such as staph aureus, klebsiella, and actinobacter as compared to just the use of hand sanitizer gel in
the neonatal ICU ward?
