You are the NP working in the urgent care center. You have a 14 year old patient accompanied by his parents. The patients states a chief complaint of coughing for 2 weeks. The patient has a history of asthma which has been well controlled this past year. The patient is not currently on any daily medications. He is noted to also have morning sneezing and nasal congestion. It is reported that an increased number of students are sick with colds at school. He has no known allergies to foods or medications. He has history of eczema. How would you approach the medical management of this patient and why?
