Eating Patterns and Dietary Guidelines for Americans
Analyze your eating patterns using the recommendations in the Dietary Guidelines as a reference. Begin by
identifying the typical meals and foods you consume each day.
• How does your current eating pattern reflect the recommendations?
• Which nutrients are you receiving in your diet and what might you be missing based on what you don’t eat
regularly or often?
Discuss how you could improve your eating patterns to meet the dietary guidelines and make a plan to do that.
(E.g. How/Where would you begin? What would you add or change first and why?)
Food Insecurity
Describe Food Insecurity, where and why does this occur? Explain the social causes for food insecurity. What
social changes (public health policies, laws or regulations) are necessary to reduce or eliminate Food
Insecurity in our communities? Explain how and why you think these changes could make a difference.
