Chopin’s Mazurka

You must listen to a recording of Chopin’s Mazurka, Op. 67, No. 3 and write a paper that (1) indicates the form
of the piece with the specific indicators we learned in class, (2) explains why the piece follows that form, and
(3) considers whether the performer in your chosen recording brings out the elements of the form, embellishes
the repeated sections, etc. Write musically and critically; be mindful of how the performer is interpreting the
piece. The paper must adhere to the style sheet posted under the files tab on Webcourses. You must submit
your assignment as a pdf file. All formal writing in any course within the Music Department should conform
generally to the rules found in D. Kern Holoman, Writing About Music: A Stylesheet, 2nd ed. (Berkeley and
Los Angeles: University of California Press, 2008). Copies of that style sheet are available as an eBook and
elsewhere.
