Elder abuse cases in the nursing home

Description

Here are the things I need fixed from my teachers comments:

  1. can you discuss all 7 articles in part 2? Also, if you can discuss some consistency/ inconsistency, that will be great.
  2. Can you discuss strengths of 3 articles in part 3? Also, I could not find discussions regarding strengths and weaknesses of EBP for your topic and population.

Evidence Based Practice Question: Does the patient to nurse ratio lead to a greater number of elder abuse cases in the nursing home?

Purpose
This assignment assesses students’ ability to (a) access and identify rigorous research, (b) identify and describe a social justice issue or problem that is concerning to social workers and (c) critically evaluate existing literature to propose an intervention supported by evidence.

For this paper students will specifically work towards developing their voice as an academic and as a scientist. The paper should be written from a professional, rather than a personal perspective, which means that, in general, it will:

a. Be written from a third person, not first person perspective.
b. Does not use slang.
c. Avoids the use of first-person pronouns (I) and most second person pronouns (we, you).
d. Not use personal stories or merely anecdotal evidence, but rather, uses research and scientific evidence to argue and defend claims.
e. Include 7~10 peer reviewed articles that are most relevant in your topic to help you find the best available intervention. At least one article should be randomized controlled trial (experimental study), or quasi- experimental study in your sources.

Papers will be approximately 5-7 pages in length, be double spaced, and follow APA formatting guidelines. Papers will be graded on thoroughness, accuracy, quality of writing. Each of the following steps should be addressed in the final paper:

Step 1:

  1. Problem Formation (1-1.5 pages)
    a. Start your paper with a one-page description about a social justice problem that is relevant to the field of social work. Discuss the problem using research, data, and/ or literature that you have found over the course of your examination of this issue. Weave these sources together to make a convincing argument that addresses the following:
    i. Who is most effected by the social justice issue you are describing?
ii. Why is this population most affected by this social justice issue?
iii. What are the specific ethical concerns that should be taken into consideration when talking about this social justice issue or population?
iv. Why should social workers be concerned about this issue?
    Step 2:
  2. Search for the Evidence (1-2 pages)
    a. Locate as many articles on your topic of interest that you can find. Then, using your ability to critically analyze research, narrow it down to the top 7~10 peer-reviewed articles that best describe an intervention used to address the social justice issue that you identified in the first part of your paper.
    b. Thoroughly read these 7~10 articles and in one to two pages answer the following questions:
    i. What, in general, do the articles state is the best intervention for challenging the social justice issue you are interested in?
ii. Is their consistency across the articles on the social work intervention that is deemed best or do the articles contradict themselves? Explain.
  3. Determine Which Evidence-Based Approach is Most Appropriate for Your Particular Social Justice Issue (3- 5 pages)
    a. From the 7 articles, choose three that you think are the absolute best for your particular social justice issue.
    b. Concisely describe the findings from these three articles. Make sure to mention the following:
    i. What type of research method was used (single study, surveys, interviews, focus groups…).
    ii. What population was researched?
iii. Brief review of the article and the research that was performed.
iv. Describe what about this article led you to believe that it was particularly strong.

c. Finally, using the evidence that you collected, what do you feel is the very best intervention to address your social justice issue?
i. Describe your proposed intervention.
ii. Discuss why you think this intervention would be best? Defend it as if you had to convince other social workers to use this intervention.
iii. In your opinion, what are the advantages of using the evidence-based practice process for your particular social justice issue or population?
iv. What are the weaknesses of using an evidence-based practice process for this particular social justice issue or population?
