Film Analysis

Description

The second step in your film analysis project is to analyze the FORM of the film you have selected.

1) Include your genre report from last week as the first page or two of your essays.

2) Next, choose TWO key scenes to analyze from the film. You want to choose scenes that seem to you to best convey the message or the mood of the film.

For each scene, be sure to describe at least one of the following, writing what you see or hear during the shot or sequence, using film terms to describe the formal qualities of the shot or sequence, and then explaining how that formal choice contributes to the mood or message of the film. Be sure to refer to at least one of the following for each of your TWO scenes:

Shot Composition Camera Movement Lighting design
Shot Type Editing between scenes Sound Design
Camera Angle Editing within a scene Mise-en-scene
This assignment should be 750-1250 words (including the first assignment, plus the formal analysis). You will incorporate your genre report and your formal analysis into the complete draft of your final analysis essay.
