Firefighters Heat – Alternative Formats

After completing the required readings listed above read the following case study:
Collective Bargaining (Positional): Taking the Firefighters Heat Collective Bargaining (Positional): Taking the
Firefighters Heat – Alternative Formats
This case study comes from the following book:
Reeves, T. Z. (2006). Cases in human resource management (2nd ed.). Thomson Wadsworth.
Once you have read the case study, write a 3-4 page paper (although feel free to write more if you want)
that addresses each of the following topics. [Note: Do not answer the questions listed at the end of the case
study — answer the topics listed below.] Be sure your paper fully explains your ideas, using points from the
case study, as well as the required readings (and/or other appropriate sources). Your paper should be
double-spaced, with 12-point font, and 1” margins and needs to be written as an APA-formatted essay [see
the mail message sent out the first week of class for full details].

2) Identify and explain the strongest and weakest points for the management team; based on those points,
explain what approach to the negotiations should be taken by the management team.
3) Explain how the factors in public sector management-labor negotiations impact, or might impact, the
collective bargaining process in this situation.
4) What do you see as the most likely outcome in this bargaining process? Explain.
As noted above, your Case Study Analysis paper needs to be in the form of an essay — this means that you
will need to include a title page, section headings (for each topic addressed in the paper), and a References
page [see the mail message sent out the first week of class, which includes a sample paper]. Be sure that
your paper fully explains the ideas presented, using points from the case study, as well as the required
readings (and/or other appropriate sources).
